BEYOND ONE SIZE FITS ALL - THE EVOLVING SPECTRUM OF GLAUCOMA SURGERIES

This video presents a visual narrative of how glaucoma surgery has evolved from a singular, traditional approach to a diverse, patient-tailored spectrum of options. Beginning with trabeculectomy, we explore its reliable IOP-lowering potential and long-term success in advanced disease. The video then moves to Ahmed Glaucoma Valve implantation, highlighting its utility in complex, refractory glaucomas where conventional filtering surgery carries a higher risk of failure. Finally, it showcases Kahook Dual Blade (KDB) goniotomy, representing the shift towards MIGS—a safer, tissue-sparing alternative ideal for mild-to-moderate cases.

Each segment underscores surgical technique and case selection, visualizing how we no longer rely on a “one size fits all” philosophy. Instead, modern glaucoma care demands stratified, individualized decision-making regarding disease severity, target IOP, ocular anatomy, patient comorbidities, and postoperative expectations.
