Clinical Features of Retinopathy of Prematurity in Preterm Neonates at a Tertiary Hospital
Study Design: Hospital-based prospective observational study. Purpose: To assess clinical features, incidence, and risk factors of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in preterm neonates. Methods: Patients(infants) meeting the criteria(as per RBSK 2019 and NNF 2020) of birth weight less than 2000grams, born at a gestational age of 34 weeks or less with or without associated risk factors were screened. Results: Out of 200 screened neonates, ROP was detected in 51.2%. Stage III was most common. Major risk factors included low birth weight, oxygen therapy, and sepsis. Most Stage I–II cases regressed spontaneously. Severe cases required laser or anti-VEGF treatment with good outcome Conclusion: ROP is common among preterms, with identifiable and modifiable risk factors. Early screening and timely intervention can prevent visual morbidity.
