Title - Association Between Long Term Use of Digital Display Devices and Type of Dry Eye
Study Design - Observational, Cross-sectional Purpose - To evaluate the type of dry eye in individuals having prolonged occupational/ recreational exposure to Digital Display Devices (computer & smart phones) Methods - Our study was conducted from June 2024 to November 2024 on 100 eyes of 50 individuals aged 25-40 years. The study group used digital devices for over 8 hours daily, while the control group used them for less than 1 hour. Ocular assessments were performed at 9 am and 6 pm on the same day. Results - In the study group, 90% had normal Schirmer test (>16 mm); 10% showed 15 ± 2 mm with slight evening drop. TBUT decreased to 5 ± 1 sec in 76% (morning 10 ± 1 sec). OSDI score was 24 ± 3 in 66%; rest were normal. All tests were normal in the control group. Conclusion - Long-term digital display device use did not significantly affect Schirmer test values; however, elevated OSDI scores indicate moderate dry eye, and reduced TBUT suggests the presence of evaporative dry eye.
