Clinical study of correlation of Diabetic Retinopathy with Dry eye disease in patients with T2DM.

Study design –Cross sectional, observational study. Purpose- To study the correlation of various patterns of Diabetic Retinopathy with Dry eye in patients with type 2 DM. Methods - Our study was held in dept of Ophthalmology RDGMC,Ujjain over a period of 6 months from Aug 24 to Jan 25.Patients who were enrolled in the study were having various levels of diabetic retinopathy. Total of 110 eyes in 55 patients were taken. Each patient underwent in comprehensive Ophthalmic examination to evaluate dry eye and diabetic retinopathy.
Results- Out of total 55 patients suffering from T2DM, 36 patients belonged to age group of 50-60 years ,19 belonged to age group >60 years. Most of our patients had duration of Diabetes ranging 6-12 years. 46 eyes (41.81%) were found to be suffering from Dry Eye Disease. 28 eyes which had Dry Eye Disease were suffering from PDR.Conclusion- DED shows a direct correlation with patients of Diabetic retinopathy and is more prevalent in patients suffering from PDR.
