Effect of SCTA in the Management of Macular Edema: a pilot study
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of SCTA in reducing CMT and improving visual acuity in patients with macular edema. Methods: This was a prospective, non-randomized, interventional study of patients with macular oedema. SCTA (4 mg/0.1 mL) was administered via custom made needle. Treatment outcomes included change in CMT as measured by OCT , BCVA , and IOP over a 12-week period. Results: This study included 5 eyes from 5 patients . Mean baseline CMT and post injection CMT at 12 weeks were 526.4 ± 126.1 µ and 210.0 ± 91.4 µrespectively. Mean baseline BCVA and post injection BCVA on ETDRS at 12 weeks were 0.8 ± 0.30 and 0.44± 0.10 respectively. A significant reduction in CMT and improvement in BCVA (>2 line of snellen’s chart) was observed by week 12. No serious adverse events were reported. Conclusion: SCTA is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for macular edema, providing sustained anatomical and functional improvement with a favorable safety profile.
