Prevalence and Risk Factors of Retinopathy of Prematurity Among Premature Infants in SNCU
Study design: Prospective observational study. Purpose: To assess the prevalence and identify contributing risk factors for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) among premature infants. Methods: 60 preterm infants admitted to the SNCU were screened for ROP using indirect ophthalmoscopy. Detailed antenatal, perinatal, and systemic histories were recorded. Results: ROP prevalence was found to be significant among infants with gestational age <34 weeks and birth weight <2000g. Major associated risk factors included oxygen therapy, sepsis, blood transfusion, and respiratory distress syndrome. Conclusion: Early screening and identification of risk factors are critical for timely intervention and prevention of ROP-related blindness.
