"Decoding IL-6 Signaling in the Pathophysiology of Pterygium"

Purpose:
The primary aim is to find the Clinical Correlation of Pro-inflammatory Marker IL-6 in Pterygium Patients

Methodology :
Prospective interventional study ongoing in department of Ophthalmology, R.D. Gardi Medical College,Ujjain.
20 patients diagnosed with pterygium.
Mean age: 45.2 ± 10.3 yrs
Sex: 12 males, 8 females
Pterygium graded by clinical severity
Tear samples or conjunctival tissue collected during surgical excision
IL-6 levels measured using ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay)
Results:
Positive correlation between IL-6 levels and pterygium severity
Pearson correlation coefficient r = 0.72
Strong association suggests IL-6 plays a role in disease progression
Conclusion:
IL-6 levels were significantly elevated in patients with more severe pterygium.
Suggests a strong pro-inflammatory component in pathogenesis.
IL-6 could serve as a potential biomarker for grading and targeting therapy in pterygium.
Larger studies recommended to validate findings.
