Diabetic Retinopathy & Medical retina
Assessment of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Biomarkers as Visual Prognostic Factors in DME
Study Design: Cross-sectional observational study Purpose: To assess the correlation between OCT biomarkers and visual acuity in diabetic macular edema (DME). Methods: Ten diabetic patients over 40 years with clinically significant macular edema were studied at a tertiary center. Comprehensive eye exams and OCT imaging were done. Assessed biomarkers included central subfield thickness, cube volume, hyperreflective foci, and disorganization of inner retinal layers. HbA1c levels were also evaluated. Results: OCT features like subfoveal neuroretinal detachment, outer retinal integrity, and hyperreflective foci correlated with worse visual acuity. Poor glycemic control was linked to more severe edema. Conclusion: OCT biomarkers are valuable predictors of visual outcomes in DME and aid clinical decision-making.
