A Clinical Study of Patients with Proptosis in Tertiary healthcare Centre in Central India

Study Design- Prospective Observational Study
Purpose- Clinical Evaluation of Patients with Proptosis
Materials & Methods: It was conducted at a tertiary health care centre in Central India based on records a clinical analysis of patients attending eye OPD the Department of Ophthalmology of the institution during a period of one years. Demographic details, clinical presentation, investigations (X-Ray, CT scan, USG- B Scan, MRI Pathology report) details were obtained. A total of 84 patients with 59 eyes were included in the study.
Results: Among them, 39 were male and 20 were female. Most frequent group (14; 23.7%) belonged to 41-50 years of age. Unilateral proptosis (58%) was more common than bilateral (42%] and axial (83.05%] was more common than non-axial ( 16.9 %) proptosis. Thyroid ophthalmopathy was most common (31%) etiology.
Conclusion: Proptosis can be due to various diseases affecting the orbit. Needs early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
