Study To Compare Development Of Macular Edema in Diabetic and Non-diabetics After Cataract Surgery
Abstract body Study design: Cross-sectional observational study. Purpose: To compare the incidence of macular edema after uncomplicated cataract surgery in diabetic and non-diabetic patients using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Methods: A total of 30 pseudophakic patients (15 diabetics and 15 non-diabetics) aged above 50 years, presenting to the Department of Ophthalmology, MGMMC & MY Hospital Indore, were enrolled. All patients underwent comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation and OCT imaging pre cataract surgery and 6 weeks post cataract surgery. Results: Postoperative macular edema was significantly more prevalent in diabetic patients compared to non-diabetics. OCT showed increased central macular thickness in diabetics, with positive correlation to higher HbA1C levels Conclusion: Routine OCT screening in postoperative care can assist in early detection and management to improve visual outcomes.
