Comparative Cross-sectional Study of AS-OCT and Slit-lamp in Diagnosis of Ocular Injury Cases

Study Design:Cross-sectional
Purpose:To compare the diagnostic utility of AS-OCT and slit-lamp biomicroscopy in anterior segment trauma.
Methods:55 patients were enrolled.History was recorded, including the mechanism, time of injury.Visual acuity was assessed, followed by slit-lamp biomicroscopy and AS-OCT. Findings were compared.
Results:Most patients were males aged 31–40 years. Penetrating injuries were most common, and metallic objects were the leading cause. The cornea was most frequently involved.Slit-lamp was superior in detecting hyphema and traumatic cataract.Slit-lamp showed higher sensitivity and specificity compared to AS-OCT.
Conclusion:AS-OCT is useful for assessing depth, orientation, and subclinical changes, making it a valuable adjunct to slit-lamp biomicroscopy. While slit-lamp remains essential for initial evaluation, AS-OCT provides critical insights in complex or subtle cases, improving pre-operative planning and clinical outcomes.
