AS-OCT Biomarkers Predicting Postoperative Residual Corneal Opacity After Pterygium Surgery

Study design:
Prospective longitudinal observational study
Purpose:
To evaluate preoperative AS-OCT biomarkers for predicting residual corneal opacity after pterygium excision
Methods:
Fifty eyes undergoing primary pterygium excision with conjunctival limbal autograft were included.Preoperative AS-OCT assessed pterygium width, height,stromal involvement depth.Postoperative residual opacity was evaluated using AS-OCT. Correlation analysis was performed (p<0.05 significant)
Results:
Mean age was 54.28±9.6 years; 52% were male.Grade 3/4 pterygium showed greater dimensions and postoperative opacity than Grade 2.Strong positive correlations were found between opacity depth and width (r=0.962), height (r=0.985), and stromal depth (r=0.996), all p<0.001, with stromal depth showing the strongest association
Conclusion:
Preoperative AS-OCT parameters, particularly stromal involvement depth, reliably predict residual postoperative corneal opacity,aiding surgical planning and patient counselling
