Title: Chemical Ocular Burns: Effect of Time to Treatment on Final Outcomes

Study: Prospective Intervational Case Series
Purpose: To assess the effect of prompt treatment on outcomes in acute ocular chemical burns.
Methods: Prospective study of 29 eyes in 19 patients with chemical burns. All received immediate first aid and emergency care. Severity was graded using Dua’s classification. Grade I–III injuries were treated medically, while Grade IV–V cases underwent amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT). Follow-up was 6 months.
Results: Alkali burns were more common than acid burns. Most Grade I–III eyes healed well with conservative treatment. AMT in severe burns showed favorable outcomes. Complete epithelialization occurred in 86% within 8 weeks; others healed by 4 months.
Conclusion: Early treatment significantly improves healing, preserves ocular surface integrity, and reduces long-term complications. Conservative therapy is effective in mild burns, while early surgery benefits severe cases.
