Outcome of patients with Carbide Gun Injury in Central India

Purpose: To describe the clinical profile, management and outcomes of Carbide Gun  injuries 
Methods: This retrospective case series included 12 eyes of 12 patients presenting with carbide gun injury. Data collected included age, sex, laterality, corneal involvement, visual acuity and management outcomes.
Results: All patients were male (mean age 15.08 years; range 11–26 years). Presented 1 and 3 days post-injury (mean 2.08 days). Corneal involvement was present in 10 eyes (83.3%). Management was tailored to sev5 cases (41.7%) were managed medically, 5 (41.7%) underwent amniotic membrane transplantation with simple limbal epithelial transplantation, 1 (8.3%) received amniotic membrane grafting alone and 1 (8.3%) required tectonic penetrating keratoplasty. Initial VA ranged from 6/6 to No Light Perception. Visual improvement was observed in 11 patients
Conclusion: mild cases respond well to conservative therapy, moderate-to-severe injuries require early surgical intervention
