When the Cornea Speaks: Clinical Signs and Microbiological Profiles in Infective Corneal Ulcers

Study Design - Observational,cross-sectional

Purpose -To study epidemiology, risk factors, microbiological profile, and outcomes of infective corneal ulcers at a tertiary care hospital in M.P.

Methods -Conducted from October 2025-Marach 2026 on 30 patients with suppurative corneal ulcers. History, BCVA, slit-lamp exam were done. Fluorescein staining, corneal scraping, Gram/KOH tests, and cultures were performed.

Results -Trauma(54.5%)was the most common risk factor. Fungal etiology predominated, with Fusarium(21%)most common; Staphylococcus aureus(62.5% amongst bacteria)was the commonest bacterium.

Conclusion -Ocular trauma was the main predisposing factor. Fungal ulcers were more common, highlighting early suspicion in post-traumatic cases.
