Morphological Changes in CAG Thickness Following Pterygium Surgery Using AS-OCT: A Pilot Study
Purpose: To evaluate morphological changes in conjunctival autograft (CAG) thickness after Pterygium surgery using Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography and correlate preoperative temporal conjunctival thickness (mCT-T) with postoperative limbal epithelial thickness (LET). Methods: Prospective Pilot study of 23 eyes with primary nasal pterygium(Grade 2-4) undergoing excision with conjunctival autograft. mCT-T was measured preoperatively. Postoperative graft thickness was recorded on days 1, 7, 15, and 30 to evaluate morphological normalisation of stable graft Results: Mean mCT-T was 516 ± 138 µm. Thickness increased on day 1 (1497 ± 132 µm; p<0.05) due to edema and inflammation returning to baseline by day 15 (506 ± 143 µm; p>0.05). Temporal LET showed strong correlation with preoperative mCT-T and day 15 thickness. Conclusion: AS-OCT effectively monitors graft healing. LET is a useful indicator of epithelial adaptation and graft integration.
