EYE HEALTH IN GOLDEN YEARS-ASSESSING THE PATTERN OF OCULAR MORBIDITIES AMONG ELDERLY IN OLDAGE HOMES

PURPOSE-TO STUDY THE PROPORTION OF AGE-RELATED PATHOLOGIES AND PROBLEMS FACED BY ELDERLY DUE TO OCULAR MORBIDITIES IN OLDAGE HOMES.A cross sectional study done on residents of oldage homes where history was taken from them according to the inclusion criteria followed by which an informed consent was taken.Residents aged 60yrs or more who had the ability to undergo ocular examination were included.Residents with severe cognitive impairment/communication barriers were excluded.Those with a history of recent ocular surgery / trauma were excluded. Ocular examination was done.Residents found having ocular pathologies were called to OPD for further workup and management.Data was analyzed, mean VA score differences between groups Majority of the residents of old age homes were experiencing diminution of vision due to cataract,refractive errors, corneal opacities,traumatic eye injury.Study revealed a significant prevalence of ocular morbidities-cataract, glaucoma,ARMD, corneal pathologies,etc.
