A Study of Correlation Between CCT & Peripapillary RNFL Thickness in Patients with POAG

Purpose-Relation b/w corneal thickness&POAG is known. But,whether the thickness represents existing damage has not been found. The aim of thestudy is to explore the correlation in CCT& RNFLthickness, unmasking research gap b/w risk prediction & disease severity assessment.Hospitalbased casecontrol study of66 POAG & 64 control eyes.CCT &IOP were analysed via midpoint transformation.RNFLwas measured by OCT.Welch’s t-test/Mann-Whitney U test were used for group comparisons.Correlation (Pearson/Spearman)&multivariable regression were done.
Results-RNFLwas markedly lower in POAG(69.39±18.72µm)than controls(86.48±12.73µm), p<0.001.CCT was lower in POAG(494.39 ± 34.92µm)vs controls(503.62 ± 25.00 µm)but not significant(p=0.085).CCT showed weak nonsignificant correlation with RNFL(r=0.148,p=0.236).RNFL was inversely correlated with disease duration(ρ=-0.557,p < 0.001)
Conclusion-CCT does not depict structural damage,hence,pachymetry-neuroretinal discordance.
