Impact of Pterygium Excision on Restoration of Tear Film Stability

•	Study Design: A prospective, interventional clinical study.
•	Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between pterygium grade and tear film dysfunction and to determine if surgical excision restores tear film stability.
•	Methods: Patients with varying pterygium grades (I-IV) were assessed pre- and post-operatively. Ocular Surface Disease Index scores, Schirmer’s test, and Tear Film Break-up Time to observe ocular surface homeostasis.
•	Results: Higher pterygium grades were strongly correlated with decreased TBUT and elevated OSDI scores. Post-surgery, significant improvements observed in restoration of tear film stability. Statistical analysis showed a marked reduction in symptoms of dry eye, suggesting the mechanical presence of pterygium is a primary driver of tear film instability.
•	Conclusion: Pterygium significantly disrupts tear film stability tear film stability. Surgical excision is effective not just for cosmesis, but for restoration of tear film stability.
