Cataract
The Science Behind Choosing the Barrett Toric Calculator for IOL Power Calculation
Accurate intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation is critical for achieving optimal refractive outcomes in cataract surgery. The Barrett Toric Calculator is a theoretical thick-lens formula that utilizes advanced Gaussian (paraxial) optics, incorporates posterior corneal power estimation, and predicts effective lens position (ELP) using five parameters (third-order polynomial regression) with data-driven refinement. An iterative vergence solution is employed for further IOL power refinement, improving precision across a wide range of axial lengths and corneal profiles. Notably, traditional formulas often rely on a single line of code, whereas the Barrett Toric Calculator requires 750 to 3000 lines of code for complex cases. The lens constant is optimized for both classical axial length (CAL) and segmented axial length (SAL). In this presentation, these aspects will be explained in an easy-to-understand manner
