Beyond the Blink: Unmasking Foreign Body Ocular Trauma

Background: Ocular trauma from foreign bodies is a major cause of vision loss, with organic materials posing higher risks of infection and diagnostic difficulty.
study design - retrospective
Objective: To evaluate clinical features, imaging, management, and outcomes of foreign body–related ocular trauma.
Methods: Retrospective review of cases documenting type of foreign body, imaging findings, interventions, and visual results.
Results: Metallic foreign bodies were most frequent; CT was effective for detection, while MRI aided in identifying organic materials. Early removal improved prognosis. Organic foreign bodies carried greater risk of infection and complications.
Conclusion: Prompt recognition, appropriate imaging, and timely surgical management are essential for preserving vision in foreign body ocular trauma, especially with organic materials.
