Vitreoretinal surgical outcomes in Ocular Toxoplasma Retinochoroiditis: A Multicentre Indian cohort retrospective analysis
PURPOSE: Study anatomical and functional outcomes of surgical interventions done for posterior segment complications secondary to ocular toxoplasma retinochoroiditis (OT) STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective multicenter METHODS: 25 eyes operated in the last decade for complications secondary to OT. Mean follow-up was 17.1 months RESULTS: Indications for surgery included Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (n=13), epiretinal membrane (n=6), vitreous haemorrhage (n=5), or tractional retinal detachment (n=1). The OT was active in 10, inactive in 7, healing in 8 eyes prior to surgery. Complete retinal reattachment was in 22/25 eyes (88%). Mean BCVA improved from 1.12 to 0.94 logMAR (p=0.43). Clinically active-phase eyes showed the greatest gain (+0.54 logMAR), while healing-phase eyes showed no improvement (−0.17 logMAR) (p=0.39). Repeat surgery occurred in 13/24 eyes (54%) CONCLUSION: OT activity signified healing phase rather than active phase to have the poorest final visual gain post surgery
